More pictures from the HoH Sports Day

Here are more pictures from our Sports Day:

Caleb gets ready...to run!

Cheering for the Green Team!

In this game, the children's feet were tied together and they had to work out a way to move around. Phillip (Sai Laao Mai) & Joshua (Sai Sai) obviously found out how to cooperate.

The staff served cold drinks & snack between the "battles."

Sports Day in House of Hope

The 18th of October was the great Sports Day in House of Hope.
We the staff had spent quite some hours beforehand thinking and planning games for the children.
The day was turned out just fantastic with games and fun all day. In fact, the children talked about it for the rest of the week! It was very rewarding for us watching the children laugh, relax and just play; we wish you could have been there with us!
But for now we hope you will enjoy the pictures taken by Inger-Lise Bjorkelid that day.

...the boys were so strong they tore the rope! But finally the team to the right won.

This is the "Catch the water-balloon with your t-shirt-game".

Inger-Lise insisted on having this picture taken to prove that she helped her team win!

Boys will be boys...

It goes without saying that some accidents are bound to happen with 27 very active boys between 7-20 years living together in the same place… This month 2 of the youngest boys, Toby & Dylan ended up in hospital with broken arms! Toby’s facture wasn’t very complicated and the local doctors were able to treat him.
Dylan (right) wasn’t that ‘lucky’… He was out playing with his friends and the next thing we knew was a boy screaming with a twisted arm. We rushed him to the hospital only to find out that the fracture was too complicated to treat here. The doctor contacted a hospital in Chiang Mai and recommended us to drive him down immediately. (By then it was 5.30 pm). It was a long and slow drive down the mountains for Dylan & Inger-Lise. By the time they had driven the 240 km to reach Chiang Mai, it was past 1 AM… Dylan was operated the next morning and had to stay another 2 days in hospital for observation.
He has now regained his strength and usually just sits still and observes the other children playing.

Some pictures...

Dear friends,
Here is a sneak peak into the world of House of Hope. Enjoy, enjoy!

Here are the children under our care, aren't they a lovely bunch?

Inger-Lise Bjorkelid is the director of House of Hope.

Three House of Hope-heroes.

What is House of Hope?

Dear friends,
Thank you for your interest in House of Hope. First of all we would like to give you a short introduction to what House of Hope really is:
* House of Hope was establish by John & Anne Gunn Broomfield and Inger-Lise Bjorkelid in January 1999. The main goal then was to offer rehabilitation and a safe home to former Shan boy soldiers.
* We tried to help these children, who had been trained to defend their war torn villages in Shan State, by giving them education and medical attention in addition to counselling.
* Later House of Hope expanded to offer help to other Shan refugee children, including girls and underpriveledged children living along the Thai/Burma border.
* Today 47 children are living at the home, and it is a true joy to see how they have found hope and a place to call home. We offer them a safe & loving home, education and medical care.
* House of Hope is a branch of a local Thai foundation called the Family Foundation, permit number 23/2544. We are a non-profit organisation.
* Inger-Lise Bjorkelid in the director of House of Hope. Six local staff live and work at the center.
